Donald J. Klostermann, 85, of Marion, Iowa, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Memorial Mass will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa with full military honors.
Don was born on August 17, 1939, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Ervin and Mildred (Nefzger) Klostermann. He graduated from Earlville High School in 1957 and went on to attend Kirkwood Community College. Don served honorably in the United States Army from 1959-1962. On June 13, 1964, Don was united in marriage to Verna Harris at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville. The couple was blessed with two children. Don worked as an Engineer for Kwik-Way in Marion until his retirement in 2001. Don was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 298, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He was also a Boy Scout leader for many years, where they went to the Boundary Waters. Don and Verna square danced from Denver to Maine and were both state officers in Iowa. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, whether it was hunting, camping, or fishing. Don had a gift for woodworking. He hand-crafted many special pieces for his family and friends over the years.
Don is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Verna of Marion; two children, Kevin (Stacey) Klostermann and Kristi Kallas, both of Marion; five grandchildren, Hailey, Brendan, Andrew, Dani and Kam; great-granddaughter, Remington Mueller; two brothers, Jim (Julie) Klostermann of Reform, Alabama and Tom (Vivian) Klostermann of Coggon.
Preceded in death by his parents; and niece, Karen.
