DONALD J. IBELING
Mesa, Ariz.
Donald J. Ibeling, 94, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away, Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, in Mesa, Ariz.
Honoring Don's wishes, no funeral services were held. Private inurnment with military rites will be conducted at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix at a later date. His wife Mary, will be inurned side by side with Don, also at that time.
Donald was born Oct. 10, 1924, son of John and Tena (Burma) Ibeling in Ackley, Iowa. Donald graduated from Dumont High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1942, proudly serving his country until discharged in May 1945.
A graduate of University of Iowa College of Law, Donald practiced law in Cedar Rapids for many years, retiring in 1989 to join the Peace Corps.
An avid reader, excellent bridge player, yard sales and collecting art work of the Southwestern Hopi Indians kept Don and his wife, Mary, busy during their retirement years in Mesa, Ariz.
He is survived by daughters, Connie Shoemaker (Bob), Hot Springs, Ark., Tina Galiher (Mike), Mount Vernon, Iowa; two very special friends, Barb and Dean Marks, Mesa Ariz.; and one brother, Dale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; and three brothers, Robert, George and John Ibeling.
