DONALD A. HESS Luxemburg Donald A. Hess, 75, of Luxemburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, of pulmonary fibrosis at his home in Luxemburg with his wife, Barbara, at his side. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg, with burial at a later date. The Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate. Don was born March 13, 1940, in Guttenberg, the son of Arnold and Hattie (Miller) Hess. He attended Luxemburg school and graduated from Holy Cross High School. He married Barbara Roling on Oct. 6, 1964, in Colesburg. To-gether they farmed and raised their family in rural New Vienna. He was a loyal employee at Dave's Feed Store for 50 years and retired at age 70 in 2010. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and his never-ending garden. A special time of year was deer season with his good friends. Don was a proud husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Jolyn (Paul) Schneider and Sherry (Pat Wombacher) Hess, both of Iowa City; two sons, Bill Hess of Luxemburg and Carl Hess of New Vienna; daughter-in- law, Jeanne Hess of Holy Cross; 12 grandchildren, Jordan, Haley, Grace Schneider, Nathan Hess, Josh and Rachel Wombacher-Hess, Cheyenne and Spencer Hess, Matt, Tyler and Brent Hess and Conner Hess; siblings, Correne (Cletus) Hellman of Ryan, Bernadette (Louie) Wiegel of Gratiot, Wis., Leola (Tom) Sperfslage of Central City and Janice (Dan) Roling of Guttenberg; in-laws, Dan (Janice) Roling of Guttenberg, Mary (Eldon) Sasson of Dyersville, Richard Roling of Cascade, Lois (Bob) Forkenbrock of Dyersville, Duane (Judy) Roling of New Vienna and Dale (Alice) Roling of Dodgeville, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Hess in 2006; siblings, Carl and Dennis Hess, Helene Oberbroeckling and Grace Roling; and brothers-in-law, Leo Wedig and Ralph Oberbroeckling. A Donald A. Hess Memorial Fund has been established. The family would like to thank Amy with Hospice of Dubuque and the many family and friends who stopped and visited Don during his illness.
