He married Betty Jean Teply on Oct. 7, 1950, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Iowa Manufacturing for 44 years. After retirement, he worked at Stoney Point YMCA for 10 years.
He enjoyed traveling, occasional bus trips to local casinos, and outdoor activities, especially gardening and doing yard work.
Don is survived by his wife, Betty Jean; children, Bobbi J. Oakley, Don (Becky) Hass and Linda (Kevin) Fleming; grandchildren, Brad Oakley, Chrissy (Bob) Angerer, Emily Hass, Sarah (Tim) Nissen, Ryan (fiancé, Katie Boyd Johnson) Hass, Rayna (Josh) Lingenfelter, Katie (Josh) Hopkins and Bob Fleming; great-grandchildren, Jay Nissen and Everly Lingenfelter; brothers-in-law, Donald (Judy) Teply and Richard (Carol) Teply; sister-in-law, Peg Hass; and several nieces and nephews.

Don lived up to his nickname, "Sunshine." His joy filled a room and his contagious smile was as bright as the sun. He enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, band and choir concerts, and family gatherings, as well as watching the Hawkeyes, Cubbies and NASCAR.
The love he had for his wife of 67 years, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was strong and unconditional and will carry on in each of them forever.
