Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 31, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church Van Horne, with the Rev. David Lingard officiating. Burial will follow in the Keystone Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church in Van Horne. Memorials may be directed to St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
Don was born on July 30, 1933, in Vinton, the son of Ewald and Marvel (Lamprecht) Albertsen. He was baptized on Aug. 20, 1933, and confirmed on March 3, 1947, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone. Don graduated from Keystone High School with the class of 1951. He served his Country in the U.S. Army. On Nov. 22, 1953, he was united in marriage to Kay Pickering at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone. The couple would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this year.
Don owned and operated Albertsen Electric Service in Van Horne and was an accomplished electrician and contractor. Don was active in the community, as a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, the Thomas F. Bevins American Legion Post 148, and the Van Horne Lions Club. Don and Kay were avid glass collectors and attended the National Imperial Convention for many years. His greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends at their lake home in Arkansas. This was a beloved gathering spot for generations of the Albertsen family.
Survivors include his wife, Kay of Van Horne; children, Peggy (Verlen) Oelmann of Parkersburg, David (Coreen) Albertsen of Keystone and Craig Albertsen of Van Horne; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Duane Albertsen of Vinton; and sister, Diane (David) Pippert of Garrison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Eleanor Albertsen; and two brothers-in-law, Larry (Donna) Pickering and Lynn “Butch” (Dee) Pickering.
