Donald was born May 3, 1938, in St. Charles, Ill., to Harry and Gertrude (Riley) Fredericksen. After graduating from Marion High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving honorably until 1959. On Jan. 16, 1957, Donald was united in marriage to Carolyn Ann Nielsen. To this union, three daughters were born.
Donald worked as a machinist at Rockwell Collins for 36 years, until his retirement in 1995. Upon his retirement, he then was a seasonal worker for Quaker Oats. He was a member of the Marion Mason Lodge 6 and Marion Legion Post 298. Donald enjoyed bowling, golfing (accomplishing a hole-in-one in 2002 at St. Andrews), re-finishing furniture, and was a perfectionist. He taught many life lessons to his daughters and cherished the time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Jean (Daniel) Barnd of Mount Vernon, Peggy Fredericksen and Kim (David) White, both of Marion; five grandchildren, Tiffani (Andrew), Jason (Rachel), Chad, Brandon and Haley; and four great-grandchildren and one that is due in April.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn in 2008; and brothers, Richard Fredericksen, Robert Fredericksen and Jerry Cook.
The family has asked that no flowers be delivered, but instead please send any memorials to St. Luke's hospice, as Donald was always happy to donate.
