Donald Fred Valenta, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Traer, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Traer, by Fr. Anthony Nketiah. Burial: St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Traer. Friends may visit with the family after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The family has requested those in attendance to please wear a mask. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Don is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Maxine; daughter, Jean (Edward) Lillis of Cedar Rapids; son, Lee (Margaret) Valenta of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Gerleman of Tucson, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Valenta; brothers, Robert Valenta and Richard Valenta; and sister, Susan Howard.
Donald was born on Oct. 10, 1931, on the family farm in rural Tama County, son of Fred and Stella Podhajsky Valenta. He married Maxine Crist on Oct. 20, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a charity of their choice.
