DONALD J. FRANKLIN

Donald J. Franklin, 79, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in the hospital in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born Feb. 17, 1939, the son of Howard and Irene (Crowley) Franklin of Marion. Don grew up in Linn County, graduating from Marion Independent High School with the class of 1957. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years before settling in Damon, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carmen; daughters, Tonya, Sabrina (Louis) Flores, Becky, Lisa (Rick) Mendes; son, Shawn; three grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Takes; three brothers, Harlan (Janet), Ronald (Lois) and Raymond (Barb); sisters-in-law, M. Barb Franklin and Caren Franklin (Mitch Huguley); and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Loras; brother-in-law, Leo Takes; sister-in-law, Carol Franklin; nephew, Gary Franklin; and niece, Sandra Franklin.
Military services with inurnment will take place at the Houston National Cemetery on May 18, 2018.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or Special Olympics in Don's honor.
