Donald Earl Nicholls, 73,
of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A memorial service will be held starting at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at
10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29,
at the First Assembly of God Church in Cedar Rapids. Private inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Donald was born on Dec. 2, 1948, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Herbert William and Betty Ann (Walther) Nicholls. He was united in marriage to Judith Stockel on Nov. 2, 1974, in Dubuque, Iowa. He finished his career as the administrator of Living Center East Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Donald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a devout Christian and was an active member of his church, First Assembly of God Church in Cedar Rapids. Donald loved the outdoors and in his younger days enjoyed a game of golf, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed a casual card game with friends and family. Donald loved to entertain and found joy in cooking and baking, taking every opportunity to share some of his crowd favorite cinnamon rolls, potato salad and soups.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Judith of Cedar Rapids; children, Chadwick (Holly) Nicholls of Minneapolis, Minn., Jennifer Conzett of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Linda) Conzett of Cedar Rapids and Sara (Thomas) McMichael of Covington, La.; grandchildren, William and Anna Nicholls, Tara (Derek) Walker, Michael Griesinger, Breanne (Andrew) Robinson, Kaitlyn (Bryce) Blomberg, Grant Conzett, Ellie (William) Byers and Winston McDonald; great-grandchildren, Cohen, Harvard and Merritt Robinson, and Ivanna and Callum Blomberg; brothers, Jerry (Judy) Nicholls of Solon and Mike (Priscilla) Nicholls of North Liberty; and sister, Julie (Phillip) Stephens of Kansas City, Mo.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Anne Nicholls.
