Donald "Don" C. Whorton, 95, of Marion, passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at Keystone Nursing Care Center, Keystone, Iowa.
The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services will begin at noon Friday at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Gary Novak. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque.
Don was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Farmersville, Mo., the son of Cleo and Grace (Pugh) Whorton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was united in marriage to Betty Heine on Feb. 7, 1944, in Dubuque. Don owned and operated a trucking company and later was employed by Plumb Supply, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Blair Ridge Baptist Church, American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion, and Teamster Union No. 238. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Marion; son, Jerry Whorton of Norway, Iowa; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Virginia Schrock of Orinda, Calif.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, John; brother, Cleo; and sisters, Vivian and Nettie.
