Donald “Don” Harold Labs, 92, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away June 28, 2024, at Center Point Heights, Center Point, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Hiawatha.
Don was born May 12, 1932, in Kearney, Nebraska, the son of Walter and Mary (Breitenkamp) Labs. He graduated from Woolstock Public High School in 1958 and received his associate’s in machine shop from Dunwoody Industrial Institute. Don served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 – 1955. Don was united in marriage to Doreen Packingham on August 30, 1959, in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Rockwell Collins and was a self-employed home builder/building inspector. Don was a skilled craftsman that loved wood working. He enjoyed puzzles, horses and traveling, especially bus trips. Above all, Don loved the time he would spend with this family. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his children, Steve (Karla) Labs, Brad (Mindy) Labs, Doug (Deb) Labs, and Brenda (David) Labs-Truka; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, and brother, Art Labs.
