Donald “Don” E. Conaway Jr., 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Eagle Grove, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022, at his home. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no services held at this time. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Don was born on Aug. 19, 1947, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Donald and Betty (Larson) Conaway. He was a 1965 graduate of Eagle Grove High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army as military police. After he was honorably discharged, Don attended Mount Mercy College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. In 1979, Don began his career as an accountant for Rockwell Collins. On April 14, 1980, Don was united in marriage to Cheryl “Cheri” Kay (Swore) Frake. He had a love for Iowa and was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Don participated in bowling, basketball, and softball while at Rockwell and enjoyed golfing, couples’ tennis and traveling. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and crazy wit, even if there was only one person in the room. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Don is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Cheri of Cedar Rapids; children, Michelle (Jeff) Watts of Cedar Rapids, Christopher (Vicki) Conaway of Marion, Iowa, Matthew (Kelly) Frake of Davenport, Fla., and Timothy (Mary) Frake of Cascade, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Chase, Mac, Sam, Addison, Emma and Aliya; siblings, Marcia Conaway of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bob (Merry) Conaway of Eagle Grove, Bev Conaway of Eagle Grove and Bill (Linda) Conaway of Webster City; along with a host of extended family and friends, including several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
