Donald Dean Gibbens, 92, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died August 9, 2024 in Lincoln. Born in North English, Iowa, to John Donald and Helen Monnett Gibbens. He graduated from North English High School and Iowa State University. He was a member, and President, of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He married Martha Ann (King) Gibbens on March 26,1955, at Florence Presbyterian Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in Rantoul, Illinois, and Overland Park, Kansas, before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1971. Dean retired from the Air Force Reserves (Lt. Col) in 1978. He was a member of Christ UMC and the Masonic Lodge. After he retired from Norden Labs in 1991, he worked as a paraeducator and volunteer for Lincoln Public Schools. He also volunteered at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother John, and his wife, Martha. He is survived by his children Mary (Mark) Jensen, Joyce Rasmussen, Don (Val) Gibbens, Matt (Barb) Gibbens, Martin (Melanie) Gibbens, and Leslie (Brian) Gibbens-Hefner, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Graveside with military honors: 10:30 am Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024 in Wyuka Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 4530 A St., Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Christ United Methodist Church Open Shelf Food Pantry. Condolences: www.bmlfh.com.
