Donald Dean Coobs, 71, of rural Dixon, formerly of Elkader, died Friday, April 25, 2014, in his home. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2589 190th Ave., Calamus. Burial: Garnavillo Community Cemetery, Garnavillo, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ray Detlefs of Calamus; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Gwen Coobs of Donahue; a brother, Edward (Sandi) of Elkader; twin sister, Dorothy Thompson of Muscatine; sister, Shirley (Don) Marmann of Farmerburg; grandchildren, Brittney Crossen, Mikaela Crossen, Alexa Coobs and her fiance, Joshua Scherer, and Austin Coobs; stepgrandchildren, Stephen (Maegan) Detlefs and Amanda Detlefs; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bernice White.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Coobs on May 13, 2004; and his parents.
Donald Coobs was born April 28, 1942, in Clayton County, Iowa, a son of William and Gladys Glawe Coobs. He graduated from Elkader High School in 1960, and on Feb. 14, 1962, married Rebecca Allyn in Garnavillo, Iowa. They made their home near Dixon, Iowa, where they raised their family.
