Donald E. Conrad, 82, of Brandon, died Friday, April 17, 2015, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Don was born Dec. 3, 1932, near Glenwood, Iowa, the son of Aldo A. and Margaret E. (Schmaedke) Conrad. He moved with his family to the Jesup area and attended Jesup High School. On July 28, 1951, he married Dolores K. Niemann at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, and the couple made their home in Brandon.
Don was employed with the railroad for 10 years before becoming employed with Deere & Co. in Waterloo for 25 years until his retirement in 1989.
Don loved spending time with his family and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Conrad, Brandon; nine children, Don Conrad, Manhattan, N.Y., Deb (William) Downs, Independence, Daniel (Evie) Conrad, Quincy, Ill., Dennis (Dianna) Conrad, Brandon, Denise (Tony) Clark, Brandon, Diana Conrad, Stockton, Calif., David Conrad, Waterloo, Donna (Lenny) Clark, Kodak, Tenn., and Nadyne Conrad, Marion; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; a sister, Lois Lambertson; and a brother, Ken Conrad.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with Sharon Bainbridge officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.
