DONALD C. DURAND
Cedar Rapids
Donald C. Durand, 60, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, surrounded by his "girls."
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 8300 C Ave., Marion.
Don was born on May 3, 1958, to Judith (Bearbower) and Francis Durand. He was the second-oldest child and brother to seven very special sisters.
Don had been plagued by the demons of alcoholism. In 2000, he underwent treatment and joined Alcoholics Anonymous. He dedicated his life to helping others dealing with alcoholism.
Don was a professional over-the-road trucker for 31 years, and made friends across the country. His favorite run was to California for strawberries. He was known for his annual fish fries and for telling wonderful stories.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; his daughter, Ali Durand (Jessica), and their children, Kaiden, Kaine and Arizona; bonus daughter, Jenny (Aaron) Smith, and their children, Jada and Aja; sisters, Ruth (Craig) Bolinger, Susan (Steve) Basler, Nancy (Tim) Loudon, Mary Manley, Ann Lisk and Kristina (Eric) Nurnberg; aunt, Ruth Bradley; aunt and uncle, Bonnie and Phillip Bearbower; cousin, Johnny Callahan; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank-you goes to "the brothers," Rob, Jim, Steve and Tim.
Becky would like to thank PCI and the oncology "angels" Crystal, Wendy and Marshall, and everyone involved with Don's care.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julia Durand; nephew, Murphy Fry; niece, Ressie Holbrook; and Grandma Vivian.
