Donald Richard Buss, 95,

of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020. Private family services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. A livestream of the services may be viewed on the church's website, www.firstlutherancr.org. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. His body has been donated to the University of Iowa deeded body program.

Don was born June 8, 1925, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Richard and Irene Christopherson Buss. He was a Naval Aviation cadet in World War II. He graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon in 1949. He married Margot Karoline Volk on April 4, 1953, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She passed away July 29, 2001. Don retired from Rockwell Collins in 1987, after 35 years of service.

He and Margot were world travelers, having visited over 70 countries. Don was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and served on the church council. He also was a member of the University of Iowa President's Club, I Club and 1847 Society, Cornell College President's Society, Heritage Club and C Club, and a member for more than 50 years of the American Legion.

Survivors include his sisters, Beverly Dunn of Tampa, Fla., Dixie Lea (Edwin) Mathisen of Chicago and Verlene Nelson of Shellsburg; granddaughter, Martina Volk of Germany; his special "granddaughter," Michelle; a godson, Duane Poole; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margot Buss; his special friend, Annemarie Stark, in November 2016; his brother-in-law, Harry "Buddy" Dunn; and his stepson, Erich Volk.
