Donald E. Bendixsen,
80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House Mercy. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private memorial service and inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
Donald Bendixsen was born on June 17, 1934, to Earl and Eva (Clausen) Bendixsen in West Branch, Iowa. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was stationed in California from 1953 to 1955. He was united in married to Beverly Ahrens on July 7, 1956, in Iowa City. Donald worked at Square D Distributor as a manager. He then worked in transportation and retired in 2001 from Heaton Equipment. Donald was an avid bowler. He enjoyed auto racing, golfing and especially spending time with his family. Donald will always be remembered for being a loving and wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Beverly Bendixsen of Cedar Rapids; three children, Kirk Bendixsen and Kim Cushing, both of Cedar Rapids, and Craig Bendixsen of Atkins; three grandchildren, Melissa Cushing, Ben Cushing and Cody Bendixsen; and two sisters, Janet Rauch and Sharon Vincent.
Donald's family would like to extend many thanks to all nurses, friends and family who gave him support and showed him kindness. Also a special thanks to the staff at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House Mercy.
