Donald A. Bates, 56, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, following a sudden heart ailment.

Private family services will take place.

In lieu of flowers, friends may direct memorials to the Bates Children Educational Fund c/o Hills Bank & Trust.

Donald is survived by his wife, Susan E. Nicol; and three children, Devin (Sharon) of Atlanta, Ga., Tori of Waukesha, Wis., and Kim of Iowa City.
