Donald A. Ahrens, 91, of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Brookdale Georgetown Nursing Home. Services, with military rites: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Mauso-leum. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Joseph) Russo of Naples, Fla.; a son, Gary (Amy) of Downing, Mo.; six grand-children and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Don was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Manteno, Ill., the son of Arthur and Irene Kunde Ahrens. He married O. Lucille Jackson on Feb. 17, 1946, in Wilmington, Ill. Lucille passed away in 2006.
Don was a tech sergeant, retiring from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service. He proudly served in World War II. He later worked at Goss Printing for several years.
Don enjoyed woodworking, travel, especially his trip to China, and the time spent with his friends and beloved family.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew and love him. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established.
