Donal Reed Gordon was born June 16, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Donal "Chuck" and Margaret (Reed) Gordon. Don attended City High School. He married Myrna D. Oleson on Feb. 5, 1972, in Laurens. He spent his lifetime in the local area, where he worked as a mechanic. In his younger days he loved to drag race and was a lifelong Packers fan.
He was a great Husband and Dad. He loved coaching his sons' ball teams, being a Boy Scout leader and sharing his love of outdoor activities with them. He was a gifted woodworker and craftsman and enjoyed working with his hands, including designing and building their home. Later in life as the grand-daughters came along, nothing made him prouder than being Papa!
Don's family includes his wife, Myrna; sons and their wives, Joe and Sara Gordon of Swisher and Jeff and Krissy Gordon of North Lib-erty; three grand-daughters, Greta, Eleanor and Mabel; his brothers, Gary of Waterloo and Dick (Sheryl) and John (Mary), both of Iowa City; nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law, Ron (Dea) Oleson of La Crosse, Wis.; his sister-in-law, Kathy Oleson of Naperville, Ill.; and several cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob; and his brother-in-law, Gary Oleson.
His family would like to thank the staff and administration at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center for their continued love and excellent care of Don, and thanks to all at Iowa City Hospice for their assistance in caring for Don and making his last days peaceful for him and his family.
Don will always be remembered as a loving Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother, dear friend to many and someone who was always willing to help anyone anytime!
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Don's family and his services.
