Don "Sparky" Spilman, 57, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. Memorial Service: 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, before the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his sister, Julie (Brent) Hagerman of Cedar Rapids; brother, Jerry (Bev) Spilman of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, Jenny Washburn, Jodi Heston, Jamie Evans, Joe Spilman and Shelley Majewski; many great-nieces and nephews; his close friends, Ron and his son, Austin and Tony, John, Gary, Doug and Greg; and many other lifelong friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
Born March 18, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Don was the son of Donald and Mildred (Garvey) Spilman. Don was involved in sales all of his life, most recently with Schwanns. Before moving back to Cedar Rapids, Don lived in Lake Geneva, Wis., and Rockville, Md.
A memorial fund has been established in Don's memory.
