DON F. BEARD
Iowa City
Don F. Beard, 72, lifetime resident of Iowa City, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at Mercy Iowa City under the compassionate care of hospice. He went to be reunited with his Lord Jesus; his parents, Donald M. and Florence M. (Schmitt) Beard; and his grandparents, Fred and Nellie Beard and Frederick and Anna Schmitt.
Don was born July 19, 1943, in Iowa City, attended Iowa City schools, graduating from City High School with the class of 1962. For over 40 years, he was employed by the University of Iowa, retiring in 2006.
He enjoyed recording music, videos and taking many pictures with his cameras through the years. Don collected countless records, movies and videos and all the gadgets to play them on! He also had his share of bicycles, as this was his only mode of transportation since he never got a driver's license. Don enjoyed the many trips to St. Louis with his brother, Tedd, to watch the St. Louis Cardinals play the Chicago Cubs (Don's team!) or the hockey games between the Blues and the Blackhawks. The best for him was the home series games between the two in 2004. As Tedd recalls, they argued a lot on those trips but he always will cherish this time with him and know that they all loved him much and will miss him more.
His family includes his three sisters, Lorena Lovetinsky (Wayne) of Iowa City, Barbara Beard of Iowa City and Paula LaFrenze (Jim Coon) of Converse, Texas; one brother, Tedd Beard of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews.
On behalf of Don and his siblings, we want to thank Iowa City Hospice and Mercy Iowa City for their loving care provided to Don and all of his family.
In honoring Don's wishes, no public services are planned. He will be buried at Memory Gardens with his parents.
Memorial donations can be given in his memory to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospital Foundation.
Online condolences and memories can be shared with his family through the funeral home Website at www.gayandciha.com.
