Domeyer, James Andrew
James Andrew Domeyer, 86, of rural Manchester, Iowa, died at his residence on Thursday, April 26, 2012. Mass of Resurrection: 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 30, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard Gaul celebrant. Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester, and also after 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
He was born on July 15, 1925, at Petersburg, the son of Andrew and Frances (VonLehmden) Domeyer. Jim was raised and educated in the Petersburg area and attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School. Jim served honorably in the United States Army during World War II in Okinawa.
On Oct. 14, 1948, Jim was united in marriage to Lavon Westhoff at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg. Together they farmed north of Manchester. Lavon died on Jan. 2, 1990, and Jim continued to farm until his death.
Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed his family, the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, playing cards and reading.
Survivors include his six children, Russ (Gretchen) Domeyer of Asbury, Steve (Janet) Domeyer of Dubuque, Cindy Downs (special friend, Randy Wittman) of Manchester, Sandy (Randy) Deets of Carlisle, Becky Domeyer of Manchester, and Bob Domeyer of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren, Katie (Jimmy), Matt (Wendy), Amy (Dan), Emily, Abby, Justin, Randi, Sara, Heather (Jay) and Ashleigh; five siblings, Laverne “Bud” Domeyer of Petersburg, Mary Lou Gravel of Dyersville, Jack (Shirley) Domeyer of Holy Cross, Doris (Jack) Burlage of Castle Grove, and Peter (Clarice) Domeyer of Dubuque; and two sisters-in-law, Virgie Domeyer of Manchester and Rita Domeyer of Dyersville.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Lavon; his parents, Andrew and Frances Domeyer; and six siblings, Roland, Mickey, Dan, Bill, Don and Paul Domeyer.
