Dolphin, Robert W.
Robert W. Dolphin, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. David O'Connor officiating. Family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church. Private family burial will take place at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Beverley; children, Pamela Dolphin, Daniel (Julie) Dolphin, Mary (Rick) Coppess and Diana (Don) Maston; and 11 grandchildren, Rebecca, Ben, Thomas, Amanda, Jennifer and Katherine Dolphin, Jim, Bob and Kimberly Coppess and Marie and Patrick Maston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Clare Dolphin; brothers, Don and Dick Dolphin; and sisters, Yvonne Schufman, Sister Janet Dolphin SVM, and Norma Jean Bauman.
Bob was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Dubuque, the son of Melvin and Clare (O'Connell) Dolphin. He attended Loras Academy, Loras College in Dubuque and St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minn. He was united in marriage to Beverley (Borelli) Dolphin on June 25, 1955. Bob spent his career working directly with people and in doing so made life long friendships. Bob loved the game of golf, was born a true Cubs fan and was an avid hunter. He also loved all types of trains, including his large collection of model trains.
He became an Elks Club member 40 years ago and a member of the board of directors at the Cedar Rapids Baseball Club since the 1960s. Bob was proud to have been inducted into the Cedar Rapids Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
He loved to have his family around him and enjoyed time with all his grandkids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
