Dolores "Nanny, Lola" Simonsen (née Fernandez), aged 93, peacefully passed away on August 6, 2024, in Lakewood, Colorado. Born during the heart of summer on August 4, 1931, Dolores was known for her spirited love of life and adventure, always filling any room with joy and laughter.
A matriarch in the truest sense, Dolores's legacy is carried on by her adoring family that spans multiple generations, including her children Barbara Jean (Wayne), Tina (Ken), Dennis (K-Lea), and Mert (Jim), along with her grandchildren Yvette (Mike), Tracey (Dan), Jeff (Missy), Terri (David), David (Hannah), Tristan (Katie), Amy (Dejan), John (Mary), Melissa (Jason), and Christina. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Emily, Taylor, Garrett, Braedon, Zach, Kate, Erika, Logan, Lukas, Denver, Mason, Alice, Shilo, Noah, Evan, Ethan, Mason, Kedrich, Selena, Sophia, Alexis, and Brenden. Her great-great-grandchidren Isabella, Hazel, Falyn, Ajamae, Kedrich. Her siblings JoAnne and Linda. Her little attack dog- Chiquita.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LeRoy Simonsen; parents David & Fanchon Fernandez; in-laws, including Jim & Evelyn Rose; siblings Maggie, Bilo, Louis, Paul, Barb, Jean, Dolly, Bob and Laura; and grandchildren Molly and Jessie James.
A testament to her life well-lived, Dolores will be remembered in a ceremony befitting her wishes. She will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread Summer 2025.
It's not "farewell" but "until we meet again," as Nanny's spirit continues to frolic in the hearts of those she touched.
