Dohlen, Norman Edward
Norman Edward Dohlen, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a long illness. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Edgewood Family Fellowship by Pastor Craig Bex, Pastor Roger Goodson and Pastor Mark Larson. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Norman is survived by his wife, Arlene; two sons, Bradley (Debbie) of Dekalb, Ill., and John (Aminta) of Kent, Wash.; daughter, Susan (Mark) Houy of Marion; eight grandchildren, Micah, Greg (Megan), Andrew, Benjamin, Zach, Caleb, Luke and Athena; brother, Gilbert (Doris) of Rockford, Ill.; and two sisters, Elaine Blume and Dolores Stykel, both of Freeport, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Diane Schott-Dohlen; two brothers-in-law, Dallas Blume and Melvin Stykel; niece, Corinne Blume; and nephew, Loren Stykel.
Norman was born May 6, 1931, in Mount Morris, Ill., the son of John and Ethel (Gilbert) Dohlen. He graduated from Mount Morris High School in 1948. Norman married Arlene Otis on March 15, 1958, in Mount Morris.
Norman always said “Life began at 40”; the year he gave his life to Christ. He loved his wife and family and had a heart for the church and missions.
