Dochterman, Lillian M.
Lillian M. Dochterman left her earthly body and went home to her Lord at age 91 on Jan. 2, 2013. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Miller. Private interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lillian was born to Herman and Henrietta (Eschenberg) Schwarting on Jan. 30, 1921. She graduated salutatorian from Conroy High School in 1939. She moved to Cedar Rapids and joined Trinity Lutheran Church in 1940. She married Roy C. Dochterman on Aug. 9, 1947. She was employed by Iowa Steel & Iron works for 32 years, retiring in 1985. Lil and Roy enjoyed traveling and have done so quite extensively, including trips to the Holy Land, Africa, Europe, Egypt, Scandinavia, Russia, India, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and throughout the United States and Canada.
Lil loved to read and write poetry. She was quick to anger with mechanical things, but never with family or friends.
Lillian was one of many children and was the last of her siblings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 2004. Also preceding her were her parents; brothers, John, Paul, Hilbert, Herman, and David; and sisters, Pearl, Alvina, Irma, and Theresa. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
She was a kind, soft-spoken soul who had a great sense of humor. She will be thought of often and sorely missed.
Memorials may be sent to With God's Little Ones or Trinity Lutheran Church.
