Dobbin, Norris C.
Norris C. Dobbin, 82, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, in Atlanta, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at the Guy and Allen Funeral Home in Gary, Ind. Burial will be at the Fern Oak Cemetery in Griffith, Ind.
Survivors include his son, Dirk Dobbin of Chicago; daughter, Lori and son-in-law Siroos Sokhan-Sanj of Dalian, China; daughter, Kara Dobbin and granddaughter Mariah of Atlanta; his former wife and friend, Noreda of Cedar Rapids; stepmother, Eunice Dobbin; sisters, Mildred Russell of East Chicago, Ind., and Janis Dobbin-Tillman of Gary, Ind.; grandson, Don C. Dobbin; great-granddaughters, Jasmin and Nia of Lafayette, Ind.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donnie Dobbins; sisters, Alice and Catherine; and brothers, David and Ben.
Norris was born in Westfield, Ala. After graduating from Upper Iowa University, Norris became a coach and facilitator for McKinley Middle School. He received his Master of Arts from the University of Iowa. Following, Norris began a new career as a sales consultant for Cargill Inc. After his retirement from Cargill, he worked for Sears and the Saturn dealership in Cedar Rapids.
Norris was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. He was also a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club of Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed playing golf and attending the Hawkeye football games with his family and friends.
