Charles A. Dixon died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, of a courageous battle with Leukemia (CML).
Charles was born March 19, 1948, in Ripley, Tenn., to Willie Roy and Annie Lou Dixon. Charles was married to Gloria J. Dixon and of that marriage a son was born, namely Chauncey C. Dixon.
A visitation period for Charles will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 6621 C Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Immediately following visitation, a graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids.
Immediate family members who preceded Charles in death were mother, Annie Lou Tyus-Dixon, Ripley, Tenn.; father, Willie Roy Dixon Sr., Ripley, Tenn.; brother, Willie Roy Dixon Jr., Decatur, Ill.; brother, Samuel E. Dixon, Ripley, Tenn.; and grandson, Stephen T. Dixon, Haymarket, Va.
Charles leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Gloria J. Dixon, Cedar Rapids; his son, Chauncey C. (Deidre) Dixon, Gardner, Kan.; grandchildren, Ambrosia (Clarence) Lobdell, Kigali, Rwanda, and Alyssa Dixon, Cedar Rapids; and his nine siblings, Ruby (Bobby) Wilson, Lawton, Okla., Barbara (Leslie) Ford, Detroit, Mich., Larry (Annie) Dixon, Ripley, Tenn., Marian (Willie) Ward,- Brownsville, Tenn., Emma (Claxton) Reese, Ripley, Tenn., Shirley Dixon, Ripley, Tenn., Brenda Pearson, Ripley, Tenn., Linda (Eric) Currie, Munford, Tenn., Kenneth (Ann) Dixon, Gates, Tenn.; an uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends/acquaintances.
Charles accepted Jesus as his personal savior at an early age and was baptized at Springhill Baptist Church in Brownsville, Tenn.
Upon his death, Charles was a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Cedar Rapids, from 1978 to present. He served in various stewardship positions at Mount Zion and other churches, including vice chairman of Deacons Board, Sunday school teacher, teacher of Baptist Training Union, usher and prayer warrior.
Charles' work career consisted of providing his services at: Wagner Castings Company, Decatur, Ill.; Caterpillar, Decatur, Ill.; Otis Engineering, Carrollton, Texas; Goss Graphics, Cedar Rapids; and owner of Dixon FYG Sprinkler Systems, Cedar Rapids.
Though Charles' presence will be greatly missed here on earth, he is now in the presence of his heavenly Father.
