Dixon-Campbell, Virginia O.
Virginia O. Dixon-Campbell, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: Noon Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Word of Faith COGIC in Cedar Rapids, officiating Pastor Wendell A. Beets and Supt. Richard Day. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by: Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include second husband, Maurice Campbell of Cedar Rapids; children, Mary (George) Ness of Dubuque, Traci Schellhorn (Steve Clarke) of Central City, Luther Dixon Jr. (Robin Neibert), Dana Dixon, Lisa (Jerome) Whittaker and Aaron (Marlo) Blackhawk, all of Cedar Rapids; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Shagonee and Delia (Hoke) Maissels both of Milwaukee, Wis.; special nieces, Kathy Blackhawk and Gail Funmaker; her longtime friend, Norma Zillyette; and special grandchildren, Ashley Dixon and Delilah Hillsman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russius and Virginia DeCorah; first husband, Luther Dixon Sr. in 2004; two brothers; and six sisters.
Virginia was born on May 24, 1943, in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., daughter of Russius and Virginia (Little Sam) DeCorah. She graduated from Marquette Iowa High School. Virginia worked at Roosevelt Hotel and the First Avenue carwash. She married Luther Dixon. The couple operated Dixon Tire. Luther died in 2004. On Jan. 29, 2011, she married Maurice Campbell at Word of Faith Church. Virginia was a member Sound Doctrine COGIC and Word of Faith COGIC for a total of 29 years. She was also an Indian liaison to the Board of Education and also worked with Governors Robert Ray and Terry Branstad.
