Dixie J. McConnell, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Solon Care Center in Solon. Visitation: 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Ervin of Cedar Rapids; children, Kim (Gary) Bowman of Cedar Rapids, Kristie (Dean) Sturtz of Swisher, Kevin (Julia) McConnell of Cedar Rapids and Brian McConnell of Hiawatha; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie McNeal of Ottumwa and Vicki (Dwight) McConnell of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Shelia Phillips of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Chory; brothers, Jerry and Steve Phillips; and brothers-in-law, Billy McNeal and William Chory.
Dixie was born June 21, 1938, in Ottumwa, Iowa, daughter of Austin and Donna (Mace) Phillips. She attended Ottumwa High School. On June 1, 1965, Dixie and Ervin McConnell were united in marriage in Ottumwa. Dixie worked at Econofoods and Hy-Vee in the deli department. She enjoyed her flower garden and playing bingo at the Legion. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
