Dixie Franzenburg, 75, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at St. John Lutheran Church,
rural Monticello, with interment at St. John Cemetery. The Rev. Reed Stockman will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3 until 6 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Surviving are her husband, Herbert (Chuck); two sons, Stan (Molly) and Daniel; three grand-children, Madison, Connor and Lydia, all of Mon-ticello; and two sisters, Beverly Pigott, DeKalb, Ill., and Shirley (Marvin) Frerking, Robins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Raymond.
Dixie Jean Hanken was born May 22, 1939, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Bessie Hughes Hanken. Dixie graduated with the class of 1957 from Monticello Community Schools. She continued her education at the Cedar Rapids Business College. Dixie worked in the office at Cuckler Buildings for several years. Dixie Hanken and Herbert Franzenburg were married Aug. 13, 1961, at St. John Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Atkins area until 1966, when they returned to farm the Hanken family farm in Wayne Township near Monticello. They raised purebred Holstein cattle and belonged to the Registered Holstein Association. The couple retired from active farming in 1994.
Dixie was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she was baptized June 24, 1939, and confirmed her faith May 11, 1952. She had served on Lutheran Women's Missionary League and many other committees at church. She also was a volunteer cook for the St. John Day Care. Dixie also was one of the founding members of Arc in Jones County and served as treasurer for many years.
