Dirks, Minnie J.
Minnie J. Dirks, 97, of Anamosa, died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Silvercrest of Anamosa, where she had resided since 2003.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Rev. Jonathon Kosec will officiate. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery in rural Anamosa. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at .
Minnie is survived by nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Alta Folkers; and friends and neighbors who appreciated her kindly ways and quiet dignity. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Dirks; and three brothers, Carl, Lawrence and George.
Minnie Johanna Folkers was born near Amber, Iowa, on October 17, 1912, the daughter of Fred and Margaret Siebels Folkers. She received her education at the Black Oak County School near Amber and was confirmed at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in 1924. In 1939 she married Fred Dirks and the couple moved to a farm in Jackson Township. Fred and Minnie had a cream route for many years and Minnie enjoyed raising chickens. After Fred's death in 1986, Minnie stayed on the farm until she was 90.
