Dione Mary Shadid, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held at St. George Orthodox Church on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 4-7 p.m., where there will be a Trisagion service beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. George Orthodox Church on Friday, December 19, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at St. George Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is serving the family.
Dione was born on July 8, 1939, in Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of Newell and Mary “Babe” (Oehring) Kramer. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School, Elkader. She moved to Cedar Rapids and worked at Nick's Fine Foods where she met the love of her life,
William, whom she was married to for 67 years. Dione married William Shadid on March 23, 1958, at St. George Orthodox Church in Cedar Rapids. Dione was deeply devoted to her faith at Saint George orthodox church. She was a devoted mother to Nick (Betsy) Shadid, Tom (Laura) Shadid and Suann (Todd) Bramer. She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Ariel, Trevor, Abbie, Michael, Austin. Kaylea Tanner and Sadie. She was blessed with six great-grandchildren. Dione is survived by her sisters Mary Jane (Oscar) Barnes and Suzann Miller; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She especially loved baking and teaching her grandchildren to bake.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Carla (James) Kessler and Karen (Everett) Nemer.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Saint George Orthodox Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in Dione’s name.
