Dickson, Linda Louise Ice
Linda Louise Ice Dickson went to be with the Lord on Sept. 20, 2011, after an extended illness at home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Williams Creek Baptist Church in Williamstown, W.Va., with the Rev. Mike Horner officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill (Burnt Hill) Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, Marietta, Ohio, with the family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service at the church.
She was born July 22, 1948, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Martha Delmare Ice and Leighton Ice Sr. Her mother and stepfather, Edward Bums, moved to jobs in several locations before settling down to a farming career in Bledsoe, Texas, where she grew up and attended school.
Linda married Curtis W. Dickson on Aug. 31, 1968, and moved to Austin, Texas. She worked as a bookkeeper at an Austin department store before starting their family of two sons and two daughters. She attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas (now Texas State University.) His career took the family to Beaumont and Houston, Texas, to Charleston and Parkersburg, W.Va., to Westover, Md., to Ahoskie, N.C., and to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before retirement to Williamstown, W.Va.
Linda worked as a department store sales clerk, a commercial furniture sales coordinator, an office supplies sales clerk, a school supplies sales clerk and as copy shop manager for Vienna (W.Va.) Office Supply. She finally pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and achieved her Certified Nurse Assistant certification in North Carolina, where she served for many years.
Linda was a crafts artist and loved to crochet, knit and tat. She also learned the American Indian art of making pine needle baskets.
Linda was raised in the Pentecostal faith but she and her husband joined the Baptist faith soon after their marriage. They were active members of churches in Austin and Beaumont, Texas, in South Charleston and Parkersburg, W.Va., Princess Anne, Md., Ahoskie, N.C., and Cedar Rapids. They were appreciative of the care and ministering of the Williams Creek Baptist Church in Williamstown, W.Va., when they moved to Williamstown to be near family for her final days of illness. She was under the care of House Calls Hospice.
Linda's family was the most important part of her life. She was devoted to her husband and soul mate of 43 years and her four children were the center of her life. She was truly devoted to loving her 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis W. Dickson of Williamstown; two sons, Jeffrey (Barbara) Dickson of Evans, W.Va., and Matthew (Leanna) Dickson of Zebulon, N.C.; two daughters, Jennifer (Carl “Bud”) Phillips of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Angela (Andrew) Miller of Williamstown, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren, Troy Sterling, Connor (Jackie) Dickson, Hannah Dickson, Emily Dickson, Sebastian Dickson, Avian Dickson, Jared Phillips, Tessa Phillips, Andrew Miller Jr., Ethan Miller, Curtis Miller and Faith Miller; and one great-granddaughter, Hailey Dickson. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Sandra Dickson (Keith) of Baird, Texas and Sharon Dickson (Bradley) of Baytown, Texas; adopted sister-in-law, Sandra Craig of Grand Prairie, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her father, Leighton Ice Sr. of Fullerton, Calif.; stepfather, Edward Burns of Plainview, Texas; and sister-in-law, Barbara Dickson Clark of Lubbock, Texas.
