Dice, Gertrude
Gertrude Dice, 97, of Palo, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Bob Voels will officiate, with burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her sister, Wilma Lawson of Fairfield; grandsons, Dan Dice of Cedar Rapids and Dale (Tina) Dice of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Erik and Emily Dice; and daughter-in-law, Elaine Dice of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; son, Roger Dice; parents, Harry and Penelope Rabel; and sisters, Lucille Hudgel, Pauline Turpin and Grace Roberts.
Helen Gertrude Rabel was born May 21, 1914, in Pleasant Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Penelope (Hileman) Rabel. She married Vernon E. Dice on Nov. 26, 1942, in Fairfield. Vernon passed away March 17, 1982. Gertrude graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She went on to teach in a one-room school house in the Jefferson County school area, and two years in the Springdale Consolidated Schools.
Gertrude was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, and Eastern Star. She always loved the farm life and enjoyed gardening, canning, and most dear to her was her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids.
