Dianna Marie Schellin was born Feb. 11, 1950, in Anamosa, the daughter of Howard and Margaret (Zimmerman) Schellin. She attended schools in Olin and graduated as Valedictorian of the Olin High School Class of 1968. She married Harvey DeSotel on July 6, 1968, in Center Junction, later she earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa.
She was employed as the director of Jones County Emergency Management, formerly Jones County Civil Defense. During her time there, she coordinated the placement of the 911 address locator signs throughout the county, and spent many nights serving and directing storm watchers. She retired in 2012 after 30 years of service.
She was an active member of the Anamosa community and the church, serving as a former trustee at First Congregational. She enjoyed reading, was a gifted seamstress and made clothes for premature infants and also Angels Dresses for infants who were born into Heaven. She liked crafting, making many dollhouses and clothes for miniature figurines. She practiced her green thumb by flower gardening. Dianna cherished Christmas, having a different theme each year. Throughout the year she would purchase gifts and hide them around the house, sometimes forgetting where she stashed them. She loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren.
Dianna will be remembered as a hardworking, giving soul to the very end, deciding to help others through donation with the Iowa Donors Network.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harvey; her sons, Rob (Sara), Anamosa and Joshua (Jennifer), Coggon; grandchildren, Jordan, Kaylee, Rory, Ty, Dathan and Oswell; a great-grandson, Judah; a brother, Robert Hausman; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa DeSotel; two grandchildren, John and Tyler; her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, June and Kenneth Shoop; and a brother, Donald Hausman.
