Diane Marie Tomas, 68, of Swisher, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015, under the care of UnityPoint Hospice. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Shueyville United Methodist Church in Shueyville. Burial will follow at Anderson Cemetery, Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Diane was born Feb. 28, 1947, in Perry, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Berneice (Bauer) Hager. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1965. Following high school, she attended Mercy Radiology School in Cedar Rapids and worked more than 27 years as a radiation technician at St. Luke's Hospital, retiring in 2006. Diane was united in marriage to Emil Tomas on Oct. 26, 1967, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Perry. Together they had three children and a life together on the farm, where she enjoyed the outdoors and her love for animals.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, watching birds, crossword puzzles, reading romance novels, rides in the old car, baking, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her family.
She was famous for her homemade cinnamon rolls and pies.
Diane is survived by her husband, Emil; children, Gary (Susan Bowersox) Tomas of Fairfax, Debra Cross (Matt Neuhaus) of Shueyville and Andy (Heidi) Tomas of Swisher; six grandchildren, Carter and Adelyn Tomas, Clay and Clint Cross and McKenna and Mason Tomas; two sisters, Nancy (Paul) Weigel of Boone and Cindy (Randy) Grgurich of Johnston; her brother, Dan (Michelle) Hager of Perry; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Berneice Hager; her baby brother, Kevin; and many aunts and uncles.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at 1 West, St. Luke's; UnityPoint Hospice; and Honey Creek Cottage for their loving care of Diane and her family.
