Diane Sigler Sweeney, 79, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, at Terrace Glen Village surrounded by her family. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9 a.m. at the chapel. Burial to follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion, Iowa.
Diane was born May 31, 1943, in Davenport, Iowa, daughter of Fred and Le Ora (Burch) Sigler. Diane was a 1961 graduate of Davenport West High School. She moved to Marion, Iowa the summer of 1967.
Diane was a long time Marion resident. She held several positions within the community, including teacher at Jack and Jill Preschool, volunteer member of the Marion Impact Committee, Marion Chamber Special Events director, board member for the Linn-Mar Foundation and chairperson for First United Methodist Church. She was also co-founder of Alternative Services in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Diane enjoyed traveling abroad with her husband. They also enjoyed winters in Florida annually where she served as a board member for the neighborhood association. Diane cherished the time spent with her close Marion friends. She was also president of the Bonita Bay Bocce Ball League.
Diane is survived by son, Brad (Deb) Buntz and their son, Josh; and daughter, Becky (Brett) Houdeshell and their children, Paige (Alex), Logan, Tyler (Hayes) and Jordan (Morgan); her husband of 22 years, John Sweeney, and his family; a sister, Connie Wendell; and many loving cousins and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Le Ora (Burch) Sigler; and brother-in-law, Bill Wendell.
The family would like to thank the Hall Perrine Cancer Center, Ed Fowler, Terrace Glen Village and Mercy Hospice for all their tender and loving care given to Diane.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Diane’s memory may be directed to Fur Fun Rescue and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
