Diane Cherriee Ely, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a Vigil Service to begin at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Diane was born July 14, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Duayne and Elizabeth (Sommer) Wolcott. She graduated from Prairie High School with the class of 1960. On June 3, 1961, Diane was united in marriage to Thomas K. Ely at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fairfax, Iowa. The couple enjoyed 57 years of marriage; Tom passed away April 27, 2019. Diane worked at Cedar Graphics and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Diane and Tom enjoyed attending car shows and car cruises together. She got the greatest joy from being with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Joan Beatty of Shellsburg, Iowa, John (Julie) Ely of Cedar Rapids, Wendy Shickles of Plato, Mo., and Kathy Ely of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom Ely; and siblings, Sally Wolcott, Bob Clark, Joann Marks and Betty Clark.
The family would like to thank everyone at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids, Hospice of Mercy, and Evergreen Estates II for their compassionate care.
