Diane Beth Ohsman Lucore passed away on July 31, 2022, at the age of 69, following complications from a major stroke. She passed peacefully at home with the support of Mercy’s Hospice services and amazing staff and surrounded by her loved ones.

Services will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, 1221 First Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404 on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at 11 a.m., followed by an internment at Eben Isreal Cemetery at 207 Hawthorne Drive SW. A luncheon will follow at Hiawatha City Hall & Community Center, 101 Emmons St., Hiawatha, IA 52233.

Diane was born the first of three children to Pat and Bud Ohsman on June 1, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in 1971. She then graduated from Bradley University where she joined the Epsilon Chi Sorority.

Diane was united in marriage with Danny Lucore on April 8, 1979. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage, two amazing children, one beautiful grandchild, and countless friends. Diane worked for over 20 years at Merchants National Bank, which transitioned to Firstar, and is now US Bank. After that she worked for a short time at World Trend Investments.

In 1990 at a Merchants National Bank Christmas party, the business that would become CR Area Storage was created. Diane and Diana Strother worked together and introduced their husbands to each other Dan Lucore and Gene Strother. They started by renovating and renting houses and apartment buildings, before transitioning into self-storage with their first location in Marion, Iowa. Diane always had a smile on her face to greet and help customers and friends.

In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was past president of Sisterhood of Temple Judah. Diane also was on the board of Eben Israel Cemetery, which was founded by her great-grandfather, Max Ohsman.

She enjoyed travelling, including many trips to Mesa, Ariz., where she and Dan lived in the winter for many years. Her annual girl’s trip to Las Vegas with family and friends was always a highlight of her year. As a child and until recently Diane and her friend Judy loved getting into mischief together. One of her recent hobbies was scrapbooking with her cousin Harriet Aarhus.

Diane was on the cutting edge of social media in the ’90s, participating frequently in internet chat rooms. She tamed the 2400 baud modem to talk to friends and family worldwide before Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook) was even born. She enjoyed playing online games of all shapes and sizes.

Diane had a minor stroke six years ago that slowed her down but didn’t stop her. She learned to maneuver her electric wheelchair, and even became a bit of a demolition derby driver, as the marks on walls and door frames in the house would attest to. With the extraordinary help of her main caregivers Renita and Sharon, and countless others; she spent this time at home at with her family. They went out to lunch, shopping, which greatly improved her quality of life.

Diane had the ability to have witty comebacks for almost any conversation; something that she definitely passed on to her family and friends.

She is survived in this life by her husband, Danny; her brothers, Mike (Pam) Ohsman and Joey “JoJo” Ohsman; her children, Randy Lucore and Cheri Lucore; her granddaughter, Lilianna; nieces, nephews, cousins, and too many friends to count.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Bud Ohsman.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Temple Judah Landscape Fund in an effort to “Re-Tree and Beautify” Temple Judah after the Derecho and for many years to come.
