Dewey L. Hemmingsen, age 76, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away at the UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital on Thursday, August 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the 1st Congregational Church of Christ, 361 17th Street, SE, Cedar Rapids, from 12 PM until service at 1 PM with Pastor Melanie Van Weelden officiating.
Dewey was born on September 12, 1948, in Atlantic, IA. He was the son of the late Raymond and Hilda (Andersen) Hemmingsen. On June 17, 1972, Dewey married the love of his life, Ginger Kraft, in Terril, IA. Dewey enjoyed fishing, reading, and baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs. Dewey’s favorite pastime was to tease and crack jokes with everyone that he met. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He worked for Superior USA as their pension administrator for many years before his retirement.
Those left to cherish Dewey’s memory is his wife, Ginger, of Cedar Rapids; his children, Christopher (Tracey) Hemmingsen, of Cedar Rapids, and Shawn Hemmingsen, of Stillwater, MN; his grandchildren, Revan, Harper Hemmingsen, and Mya Boothe; his brother, Frank Hemmingsen, of Elk Horn, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Raynor and Vernon Hemmingsen.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to UnityPoint Hospice.
