DeWees, Maxine Brooks
Maxine Brooks DeWees, 89, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away in Edina, Minn. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son, Jerry (Susan) DeWees of Edina; sister, Joan Sturtz of Marion; and grandchildren, Alexander (Shelley) and Katelyn DeWees.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Neal; and two brothers, Donald and Evert Brooks.
Maxine was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Marion to Evert and Anna Brooks. She married Neal L. DeWees there on May 23, 1942. She was an over 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. She worked at Northwestern Bell, La Plante Choate, and Armstrong's. She enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing and gardening, and crocheted afghans for weddings and births of relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the El Kahir Shrine or the charity of your choice.
