DeVries, Curtis D.
Curtis D. DeVries, 26, of Iowa Falls, formerly of McGregor, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, following an extended illness.
Curt was born Nov. 30, 1985, in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Douglas and Amy Kalvelage DeVries. Curt was a 2004 graduate of Anamosa High School. Following high school Curt attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Curt assisted his father with duties at the Thornburg-DeVries Funeral Home in McGregor, Lansing and Prairie du Chien, Wis. He was currently enrolled as a student at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, studying pre-pharmacy.
Curt enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and kayaking.
He is survived by his father, Douglas and Marilyn DeVries of Savage, Minn.; his mother, Amy DeVries of Dubuque; one brother, Daniel DeVries of Savage, Minn.; paternal grandparents, Susan DeVries of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, and Jan and James Murray of Morehead City, N.C.; maternal grandparents, Robert and Jane Kalvelage of Dubuque; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Calvin DeVries on April 25, 2002.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 16, at Steamboat Rock Cemetery, Steamboat Rock. The Rev. Bruce Bailey will officiate.
Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of McGregor is in charge of arrangements.
