Devaney, Rosemary M.
Rosemary M. Devaney, 85, of Monticello, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a parish vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Keith Birch will officiate, with the Rev. Herbert Tegeler concelebrating.
Rosemary was born June 10, 1927, daughter of Laurence and Teresa (Takes) Decker, in Bernard, Iowa. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Garryowen in 1945. She attended Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque, where she received her RN degree in 1948.
Rosemary enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her faith and family were most important to her. She also enjoyed music, sewing, painting, and quilting.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; eight children, Beth (Darnell) Porter of Monticello, Patrick Devaney (Kathy Adams) of Monticello, John Devaney of Delhi, Karen (Terry) Solomon of Manchester, Tom Devaney (Barb Siefker) of Anamosa, Mike (Doris) Devaney of Cedar Rapids, Diane (Matt) Lund of Cedar Rapids and Jeff (Holly) Devaney of Marion; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Betty Johnson, Jean McClain and Sally (Jim) Hoerner, all of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Paula; and six siblings, Leo Hirtz, Loretta McCarthy, Veronica Gross, Mary Catherine Connolly, Earl Decker and Imelda McDermott.
