DeSotel, Merle Eugene
Merle Eugene DeSotel, 80, of Independence, died July 24, 2009, at West Village Care Center. Graveside services: 10 a.m. Monday, Chapel Garden section, Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Marcia Burns of Hiawatha, Lorri Ripperda of Tyndell, S.D., Mary DeSotel of Cedar Rapids and Brian DeSotel of Walker; brother, Laurence DeSotel of Marion; grandchildren, Myla and Gregory Burns, Aubrey and Sarah Ripperda, Derek and Brionna DeSotel; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Burns; parents, Gilbert and Helen DeSotel; and brothers, Harold, Robert, Arthur, Roy and Richard.
Merle was married to Marjorie Bloom of Alburnett. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
