Deskin, Rayma
Rayma Deskin, 76, of Solon, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her children, Wendy “Ranae” Drahos of Cedar Rapids, Mike (Laura) Deskin of Claremore, Okla., Ray Deskin of Cedar Rapids, Lyle Deskin of Port Arthur, Texas, and Terry Deskin and Steven Deskin, both of Dallas, Texas; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia (Larken) Derks of New Port Richey, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith; two grandchildren, Tara and Tanja Deskin; brother, Ronald Sult; and son-in-law, Gil Drahos.
Rayma was born Nov. 30, 1934, the daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Bond) Sult, in Des Moines, Iowa. On Jan. 22, 1957, she was united in marriage to Keith Deskin in Albia, Iowa. They lived in Chicago until moving to Cedar Rapids in 1960 and then moved to Solon in 1976. Rayma worked for United Fire, McKesson-Robins Pharmaceutical and Quaker Oats, where she retired in 1999.
Rayma enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, traveling, music and simply loved life. She enjoyed meeting new people and always saw the good in everyone. She was a former member of the I.O.F.
Most of all, she loved her family. She absolutely adored each one of her grandchildren and bragged to all about each one of them and their accomplishments.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Rayma the past two years, and to Cottage Grove Place for the kind loving care you provided to our mother and grandmother. Extra special thank yous to Jenni Trittle, Dawn Tompkins, Tammi Dame, Linda Bryant, Lexi Voss, Lea Reed, Mary Engleby, Jenny Glonda and Lucy Simpson. We will always remember the love and kindness you shared with Rayma.
