DeShaw, Bernadine
Bernadine DeShaw, 76, of Hopkinton, died Saturday morning, July 21, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Tuesday morning, July 24, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton, with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at St. Luke's Catholic Church, where a parish Vigil service will be held at 7. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; a son, Randy (Kathy) of Iowa City; two grandsons, Ryan (Stephanie), Pilot Point, Texas, and Brent (Sarah), Brunswick, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Josiah, Hannah and Jacob; two sisters, Dorothy (Duane) Gorman, Dubuque, and Mary (Paul) Kluesner, Epworth; five brothers, Paul Trumm, Cascade, Leo “Barney” (Mary Catherine) Trumm, Manchester, Donald (Patricia) Trumm, Dubuque, Eldon (Kaye) Trumm, Worthington, and Steven (Trish Oliver) Trumm, Riverview, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Virginia DeShaw, Strawberry Point; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Duane Jr. (Luella) DeShaw, Hopkinton, Betty McIntosh, Manchester, Donna Rae DeShaw, Elkader, Ella Mae (Bill) Wernimont, Hopkinton, Steve (Lyda) DeShaw, Amber, Lee (Gail) DeShaw, Hopkinton, Gary (Deb) DeShaw, Elkader, Sharon Meyer, Missouri, Larry (Connie) DeShaw, Strawberry Point, Juanita Lake, Arizona, Diane Potter, Strawberry Point, and Earl (Joanne) DeShaw, Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ernest.
Bernadine Catherine Trumm was born March 9, 1936, in Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Coletta (Heid) Trumm. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in 1954. Bernadine Trumm and Robert DeShaw were married on Nov. 26, 1955, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade. The couple made their home in Hopkinton. Bernadine was employed by the Hopkinton Municipal Utilities until Randy was born. She later worked at Citizens State Bank and the Swiss Valley Milk Lab. She was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and the Rosary Guild. Berandine had also worked with Senior Dining.
