Derrick P. "Red Dog" Tharp, 52, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Vinton, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at his home in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of Derrick's life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Private family committal services will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
A memorial fund has been established at US Bank, 222 Second Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401.
Derrick was born Oct. 19, 1961, in Vinton, to Phillip and Koreen Hammond Tharp. Derrick owned and operated "All 4 U" Con-struction for several years.
Derrick enjoyed fishing, boating, working in his yard and Harley motorcycles. Derrick was an avid NASCAR fan and he liked to relax around his fire pit with friends.
Derrick was loved by his many friends and family.
He is survived by his parents, Phillip "Bud" and Koreen Tharp of Cherokee; his sister, Brenda Mark-wardt of Marion; his brothers, Jeffrey Tharp of Cherokee and Deron Tharp of Savage, Minn.; his girlfriend, Pam Untiedt of Cedar Rapids; his children, Chelsie, Brittney and Tanner; a special aunt, Peggy Nagel Bevinour; his nieces, Amber and Heather; his nephew, Jesse; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandchildren.
Derrick was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; great-grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
